Takata Petri is an automotive parts company based in Japan. The company has production facilities on four continents, with its European headquarters located in Germany, where it also has nine production facilities.[1] It had an around 4 billion euros in turnover in 2008.[1]

The Petri AG was founded in Aschaffenburg in 1899 by Richard Petri and started to produce steering wheels and interior trims. Petri founded the first plant (Plant 01) in Aschaffenburg, which is now the European Headquarters. Later Petri expanded a few more times and added other plants for the production of plastic parts, like the Plant 02 in Nilkheim, near Aschaffenburg and Plant 03 in Albertshausen, near Bad Kissingen. The Steering Wheel production is still located in Aschaffenburg. Other plastic components and interior trims are mostly produced in Albertshausen (Plant 03). Aside from these plants, Petri also founded some researching and assembling plants later on. In 1981, Petri developed and produced the first airbagsystem in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. In 2000, Takata KK and Petri AG merged to Takata-Petri.
The Company was founded in 1933 in Shiga (Japan) by Takezo Takada and started to produce lifelines for parachutes and other textiles. In the early 50's Takata started to research Seat belts caused by the need of more safety. Later they incorporated as "Takata". In the 60's Takata started to sell Seat belts and built the worlds first Crash test plant for testing the seat belts under real world conditions, and optimize them. In the 70's Takata want to give the child more safety in cars, and succeed. They developing child restraint systems. In the 80's their name changed into "Takata Corporation" and expanded to Korea, USA and later to Ireland in Europe to sell seatbelts. In the 90's Takata expanded massive, all over the world. Also in Europe and Germany, where it cames to the first fusion in 1995. In 2000 Takata KK and Petri AG merged to Takata-Petri.
Takata-Petri, is the global leaders in the producing steering wheels and researching/producing plastic parts, not only in the automotive industry. They are also one of the top employers, and they deliver plastic parts worldwide.
